Tasks

The „Open Distributed Systems” (ODS) group conducts research on intelligent distributed/decentralized information systems in the areas of highly scalable dynamic data management (data stream processing), distributed query processing, (information) modelling, semantics, data representation and data storage, interoperability, and real-time networking. We research, develop, and apply methods for the areas of distributed systems, Semantic Web, Linked Data, databases, Internet of Things and AI.

Currently we are looking for a Ph.D. researcher in this area. A successful candidate will conduct research in one of these areas and will play an active role in teaching and supervising of students.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science, applied mathematics, statistic, or similar (with outstanding honors)
  • Knowledge in at least three of the following areas:
    a) advanced distributed database systems,
    b) stream data management,
    c) machine learning and AI,
    d) decision support systems,
    e) modeling and analysis of Big Data.
    f) Semantic Web,
    g) Linked Data and data integration
  • Very good programming skills (C/C++, Java, Python)
  • The ability to teach in German and/or English is required; willingness to acquire the missing language skills

Desirable:

  • Interest in challenging scientific problems and the motivation for independent and goal-oriented research
