Technische Universität Berlin

Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:

Tasks

For decades, the economy and culture of the Lausitz region were shaped by the brown coal industry. Today, around 13,000 people are still directly and indirectly employed in this industry. At the same time, thanks to its central location in Germany, the region holds great potential to become an important logistics hub in Europe. In order to exploit this potential, innovative concepts are needed to support the region in this structural change.

The goal of the project "DiSTILL - Digital Simulation Tool for the Further Development of the Lausitz Region into an International Logistics Hub Lausitz" is to map the region's logistics infrastructure as well as the (future) requirements for it in a digital simulation model and make it publicly available. This data-driven tool allows users to evaluate the logistics performance of the region as a whole as well as individual locations. Changes in infrastructure as well as demand can thus be analyzed with the help of what-if scenarios. The project is in its final phase and may be extended by another two months if necessary.

Sample objectives of the project include:

  • Data analysis of logistic traffic and infrastructure data in the Lausitz region and extraction of important findings
  • Development of a regional digital simulation tool that combines logistical demand and supply data
  • Promotion of the Lusatian region as an international logistics hub

In addition to the TU Berlin, the project consortium includes important stakeholders of the Lausitz region's logistics system as well as a software company. In addition to general project coordination, the task of the scientific project assistant at TU Berlin will be to support the development of the simulation tool. This includes creating mockups and obtaining feedback from the relevant user groups. External communication is equally important, which is why at least one corresponding event is to be designed and coordinated with the partners as part of the project.

Requirements

  • successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in engineering sciences
  • experience in project management
  • initial experience in planning and executing marketing activities
  • advanced skills in simulation of logistics systems, and analysis and evaluation of transportation networks
  • very good language skills (minimum requirement: business fluent German and English).
  • in-depth knowledge of logistics management and technologies as well as multimodal transport logistics are desirable
  • practical experience in the industry and/or in the university sector is desired
  • international experience in university or business environment advantageous
  • high motivation and ability to work in a team are desirable
