Research Assistant - 0.75 working-time
Your responsibility
We are looking for a highly motivated research assistant for our DFG-project "lmprovement of the endurance limit and the coatability by plasma electrolytic oxidation of the titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V through shot peening with liquid C02 and fine-grained peening medium", performed in close collaboration with the Chair of Machine Tools and Production Engineering, TU Berlin. For further information, see https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/543599442?language=en.
Specifically, the tasks at FGWT comprise to:
- optimise the coating parameters to produce hydroxyapatite layers on TIAl6 V4 specimens by plasmaelectrolytic oxidation and performance of the coating processes
- characterise the structure and the mechanical properties of the coatings by microscopy/tomography and micro-/nanoindentation in quasiphysiological media, respectively
- characterise the fatigue behaviour by cyclic nanoindentation and macro fatigue experiments
- developing the theoretical and scientific foundations of the research work
- continuously compiling and providing the latest state of knowledge
- contributing to manuscripts for the publication of results in high-ranking scientific journals
- preparing abstracts and presentations of the results at national and international conferences
- fulfilment of obligations defined in routine project meetings, including the preparation of presentations and reports
- support for the administrative and organisational activities necessary for the success of the project, as well as public relations work
- active contributions to the scientific results of the project through the exchange of samples, techniques and know-how
Your profile
- successfully completed academic degree (diploma, master's or equivalent) in materials science, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or similar disciplines with a strong background in materials science; very good degree desirable
- proven experience in performing scientific mechanical experiments; experience with fatigue testing, micro- and nanoidentation, and plasmaelectrolytic oxidation are advantageous
- structured working style, organisational skills and good time management (is desired)
- interpersonal skillset to work in an interdisciplinary, intercultural team (is desired)
- sense of responsibility and reliability (is desired)
- written and oral fluency in English, excellent skills in writing scientific texts and in oral presentation of scientific results
- very good knowledge in German or basic knowledge and keen interest to improve German speaking skills to be able to communicate with German-speaking team members
- willingness for work-relevant (e.g. experiments) national and international working travel (e.g. synchrotron experiments, project meetings)
