Master thesis project in Systems Neuroscience at Charité
Lasting Impact of Early Experiences on Learning and Decision-Making
Tasks
In the Neural Networks Research Group at the Charité Campus Mitte, a master’s thesis on the topic ‘Lasting Impact of Early Experiences on Learning and Decision-Making’ is available. We are a dynamic and interdisciplinary team dedicated to researching the neural foundations of learning and memory, as well as investigating risk factors for mental illnesses (https://www.claudiaboehmlab.com). As a master’s student, you will contribute to the development of a new behavioral task for rodents and explore whether and how early experiences have a lasting impact on learning and decision-making behavior in a rat model. In addition, the project will examine how internal physiological states, such as oestrous cycle–related hormonal fluctuations and sleep–wake patterns modulate behavioral parameters. In the course of addressing the research question, you will acquire and apply experimental methods, including high-density neural recording techniques, and assist in data analysis using machine learning methods. You will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing studies and receive individual mentoring.
Requirements
- students from natural-, life- or engineering sciences, applicants from medical fields are also welcome
- FELASA certificate required
- Minimum of 6 months availability
- Interest and motivation to conduct behavioral experiments in rodents (rats)
- Self-motivated
- programming experience with Matlab and/or Python and previous laboratory experience are a plus
