Tasks
We are looking for a senior scientist to join our team working on the economics of climate change adaptation, land tenure formalization reforms in forest areas, and climate service provision in agricultural settings. The aim is to use applied econo-metric methods to study the impact of specific interventions, including the design and implementation of experimental studies to analyze behavioural mechanisms. The geographic focus is mainly on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Working together with other researchers, governments, and international organiza-tions primarily in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, we conduct applied research that can inform policy-making and program design, with the aim to support risk manage-ment and adaptation to climate change. The work is carried out within different third-party funded projects and in cooperation with climate scientists, agricultural model-lers and economists.
Key responsibilities:
- conduct econometric research on agricultural risk management, natural re-source governance, and adaptation to climate change, with a focus on LMICs
- coordinate and contribute to the implementation of research projects through close collaboration with other researchers at PIK as well as the involved stakeholders in the target countries
- coordinate large-scale primary data collections (household surveys) in LMICs
- write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals that highlight findings from the research projects and present research findings at international con-ferences
- liaise and maintain communication with project donors, responding to infor-mation requests, preparing project progress reports and policy briefs
Requirements
Requirements:
- you hold a PhD in development economics, agricultural economics, or related fields with a quantitative orientation, with a minimum of 6 years experience post-PhD
- knowledge and work experience in tropical agriculture, sustainable develop-ment, and climate impact analysis is needed
- you have profound experience with applied econometric research, in particu-lar experimental methods
- you have expertise in data analysis, with programing skills in Stata. Experi-ence with other programing languages and GIS is desirable
- experience with primary data collection, including coordinative tasks and sur-vey design, is required
- experience in project management and development of research proposals is valuable
- expertise on land tenure formalization reforms and/or climate service provi-sion for farmers is an asset
- work experience in LMICs is needed as well as the willingness to travel to these countries
- you have strong analytical and scientific writing skills, excellent communica-tion skills, and you are fluent in oral and written English; proficiency in French is an asset
What we offer
We offer:
- opportunities for cooperation with PIK’s national and international network of leading climate and agricultural research institutes,
- participation in user-driven research projects with international partners,
- the chance to be part of a creative and interdisciplinary team,
- a stimulating working environment in an internationally recognised research institute on Potsdam's beautiful, historic Telegrafenberg campus, a short commuting distance from Berlin,
