Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 1st qualification period (prae doc, PhD candidate)

Working field:

Research and teaching in genereal sociology (primarily in the areas of interaction, communication, knowledge and visuality) and qualitative methods
  • teaching courses in German and English in the bachelor´s and master´s Sociology programs covering 4 course hours per week
  • involvement in research activities of the Chair (Fachgebiet), including the video lab
  • organizational tasks
  • contribution to activities by the Institute of Sociology
  • mentoring students
  • completing a doctorate in a research area coverd by the academic chair (The position is intended for candidates wishing to complete a doctorate. Some of your working time may be used to work on your doctorate. You must be willing and able to successfully complete a doctorate in a research area covered by the academic chair.)

Requirements:

  • successfully completed university degree (Diplom, Master or equivalent) in sociology
  • practical knowledge of qualitative methods of empirical social research
  • very good knowledge of ethnography and video analysis
  • very good understanding of general sociology
  • very good understanding of a broad range of Sociological Theory, in particular also communicative constructivism, the sociology of knowledge, and the fundamentals of the sociology of space
  • sufficient language proficiency to teach classes in both German and English is expected
  • willingness to conduct independent scientific work
  • willingness to actively contribute to the academic chair´s research work in the areas of sociological theory, communication, and knowledge
  • experience abroad is desired
  • teaching experience (including tutorials) is an advantage
  • additional requirement: ability to cooperate and work in a team
