Research Assistant - salary grade E 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

The Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD) at TU Berlin (Prof. Klaus Robert Müller / Prof. Volker Markl) is looking for a research assistant in the field of machine learning and computational linguistics for an agility subproject. The project will be carried out in close cooperation with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence in the "Speech and Language Technology" research group, which is headed by Prof. Sebastian Möller.

The research group develops, among other things, methods for information extraction from natural language texts. The goal of the project "Cross-Language Information Extraction and Verification for Adverse Drug Reaction Assessment" is to develop new approaches for the detection of adverse drug reactions from social media.

Working field:

The goal of the project is to develop methods for the detection of adverse drug reactions. Here, the development of cross-lingual transformer architectures using transfer and few-shot learning is the main focus. Furthermore, the concrete goal is to a) identify erroneous and false information in patient forums, b) find ways to make sensitive patient-generated data usable for research, and c) explore cross-cultural and cross-lingual aspects around adverse drug reactions.

In this project we expect independent and responsible research in the described areas but also the evaluation of alternative approaches.

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university degree (master, diplom or equivalent) in computational linguistics or computer science
  • Experience in natural language processing and machine learning
  • Very good programming skills in Python, especially in the Huggingface and PyTorch/TensorFlow libraries.

Previous experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
  • Few-Short Learning
  • Cross-lingual information extraction
  • Creation of medical corpora and handling of annotation tools like brat or prodigy
  • Basic knowledge in the field of adverse drug reactions
  • Experience working in an international team
  • Sufficient language proficiency to teach classes in bioth
  • Very good command of German and English required
  • Basic knowledge of other languages, for example French

How to apply:
