Research Assistant - 0.67 working-time - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 1st qualification period (PhD candidate)

Working field:

The purpose of the position is to conduct economic research in Linus Mattauch's research program on "How inequality and identity impact global climate solutions - and what economics can do". Research topics include how wealth inequality is a barrier to stringent climate policy instruments in the Global South; public approval of environmental policies; carbon pricing; and economic approaches to sustainable urban transport and sustainable food. (The research program is conducted in cooperation with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research's "Future Lab" on inequality, human well-being, and development)
The employment includes the expectation to participate in the teaching activities of the research group on environmental economics.
The employee will be expected to participate in disseminating research findings to the public, such as through blogposts, workshops, etc.

Requirements:

  • successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in economics or a closely related quantitative field (such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, philosophy, physics) or being close to obtaining one is a requirement.
  • good mathematical skills, especially a focus on analytical economic modelling; Programming skills are an asset
  • an interest in economic policy and public debates on environmental issues
  • sufficient language proficiency to teach classes in both German and English ist expected

desirable knowledge:
  • an interest in welfare economics and philosophy of economics, behavioural economics, and policy advisory activities and public communication of scientific results on climate policy
  • willingness to work in English on a day-to-day basis
