Working field:
To strengthen our team, we are looking for a graduate students (f/m/d) to complete a PhD in economics at the chair of the Center Director Professor Niklas Potrafke at the University of Munich and to work on research projects in public economics and political economy.
How should we assess the instruments of economic policy used in Germany, the European Union and globally? How do political decision-makers and institutions influence economic policy and its outcomes? And how do political factors shape expectations of agents and their behavior? The ifo Center for Public Finance and Political Economy investigates these questions and derives policy recommendations. The team examines public debt in Germany and Europe, the evaluation of fiscal policies, and fiscal federalism and local public finances. The focus is on current issues, such as the record debt levels following the Corona crisis and economic policy strategies to consolidate budgets. We conduct international survey experiments and investigate how individuals form expectations. Excellent research is our top priority. We publish our research results in renowned international journals. Join us in this task!
