Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II - Institute of Chemistry - BasCat - UniCat BASF JointLab

Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:

Research Assistant - 0.67 working time - salary grade 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) promotes a resource-efficient recycling economy and the development of methods for plastic recycling (https://is.gd/Qhioyh).
Within this scope, BasCat - UniCat BASF JointLab investigates catalytic hydrogenation of plastic waste to enable a circular plastic economy. This project aims at the efficient use of green hydrogen for turning mixed plastic waste into a raw material for the chemical industry.
The implementation of new raw materials, catalysts, and processes is mandatory to make a significant contribution to a sustainable, energy- and atom-efficient circular economy (closed carbon cycle). The research project is dedicated to heterogeneous catalysis and is conducted by multi-disciplinary teams at TU Berlin.

Working field:

  • Conducting corresponding kinetic studies using high-pressure and high-temperature single autoclave units as well as parallel testing units
  • Preparing and evaluating various solid catalysts for the chemical recycling of plastic waste (pure and mixed plastic waste)
  • Detailed characterization of fresh and used catalysts

The obtained data will be used to identify correlations between physio-chemical properties of catalysts and their catalytic performance. Additionally, data will be shared with team members and project partners for kinetic modeling and the subsequent transition from lab-scale processes to larger-scale applications.

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university degree (diploma, master's degree or equivalent) in chemistry or chemical engineering with above-average academic performance

Mandatory qualifications:

  • Experience in catalytic testing (preferably in a parallel testing unit)
  • Alternatively: experience in kinetic modeling
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills

Disirable qualifications:

  • Experience in preparation and characterizing inorganic materials (solid catalysts)
  • Detailed knowledge in polymer/product analysis, such as GCMS-FID, simulated distillation, 2DGG, GPC, and DSC

How to apply:

Applications should include the reference number and the appropriate documents (e.g., cover letter, CV, copy of the certificates of your Diplom / Master, a summary of your M.Sc. Thesis, and a publication record if applicable). Please send your complete application in one single pdf file via E-Mail to Dr. Al-Naji (contact@bascat.tu-berlin.de).

By submitting your application via email you consent to having your data electronically processed and saved. Please note that we do not provide a guaranty for the protection of your personal data when submitted as unprotected file. Please find our data protection notice acc. DSGVO (General Data Protection Regulation) at the TU staff department homepage: https://www.abt2-t.tu-berlin.de/menue/themen_a_z/datenschutzerklaerung/ .

To ensure equal opportunities between women and men, applications by women with the required qualifications are explicitly desired. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be favored. The TU Berlin values the diversity of its members and is committed to the goals of equal opportunities.
