You will join ConCat lab (https://tu.berlin/en/concat) to develop and apply methods for operando measurements of electrical conductivity of transition metal oxides. The project combines design of instruments to enable measurement of conductivity and permittivity, instrument automation, as well as characterisation of materials, understanding of structural, electronic, and dielectric properties, and their link to heterogeneous catalysis.

Your scientific duties will include:
Routine operation of the Cavity Operando Conductivity Setup (COCoS) at ConCat
Design, commissioning and automation of a broadband operando conductivity instrument
Systematic investigation of the structure, dielectric properties, and catalytic performance of binary and ternary transition metal oxides
Support for and collaboration with computational researchers in our lab
Microkinetic modelling of the catalytic performance of the studied materials
Additional duties, expected of doctoral candidates, will include the preparation of publications, participation at conferences, and aptitude for independent work. Budget for international travel is available. The position is currently limited to 2 years, with the possibility of an extension.
Successfully completed Master’s degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
Capability and wish for independent work
Hands on experience in a catalysis, chemical engineering, or a materials science lab
Basic knowledge of python
Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
Experience with measurement of dielectric properties
Experience with microwave or RF transmission structures
Experience with sample and data management using electronic lab notebooks
