Chair (W2) of Public Transport

At the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, the Institute of Railway Systems and Public Transport invites applications for the

Chair (W2) of Public Transport

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Working field:

The chair’s research focuses on advancing concepts and models for planning, network design, operation, and innovation in public transport and its integration into multi-modal mobility, while addressing the central role of public transport for intermodal mobility and the transition to sustainable transport systems. The aim is to further develop intelligent public transport services such as demand-responsive transport services, integration of autonomous vehicles, mobility-as-a-service concepts, multi-model mobility, reliability and flexibility of public transport, as well as concepts for planning, management, and operation. These shall be used to develop flexible, reliable, optimized, powerful and sustainable operational public transport concepts in cities and rural areas. To achieve these goals, innovative methods such as operations research, artificial intelligence, modeling, and simulation should be applied.

As the chair holder, you (m/f/x) will represent the scientific field of public transport operation and planning in teaching and research. You have to teach in the bachelor, master, and diploma programs at the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences and contribute to teaching export to other faculties at TUD. We expect your participation in academic self-administration and your willingness to teach in English and German. One of your main tasks will be the successful acquisition of third-party funding from federal (DFG, BMBF et al.) or EU sources, as well as from industry partners. Your willingness to cooperate with other chairs of the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, other structural units at TUD, other institutions within the DRESDEN-concept alliance, and stakeholders is essential.

Requirements:

We are looking for you as a dynamic and dedicated personality with an international academic track record in public transport systems and experience in externally funded research. We invite applications with proven expertise in at least two of the following areas:

  • Analysis, modelling and design of technologies, processes and systems for powerful, flexible, multi-modal, and reliable public transport operations,
  • Digitization and automation of planning and operations in public transport,
  • Long- and short-term demand and arrival forecasting with statistical methods or artificial intelligence approaches,
  • Operation research approaches for planning (scheduling, routing, network design, individual path modeling, robustness).

We are looking forward to your application if you hold a university degree in transportation science or related relevant fields and have a pedagogical aptitude and excellent capability for scientific work, which you can prove by a doctoral/PhD degree and further outstanding academic achievements. The proof for the latter is a habilitation/postdoctoral qualification, a positively interim evaluated junior professorship, or an equivalent. Applicants must fulfill the employment qualification requirements of § 59 of the Institutions of Higher Education Act in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG).

How to apply:

For further questions, please contact the head of the appointment committee, Prof. Dr. rer. pol. habil. Georg Hirte (phone: +49 351 463-36788; email: georg.hirte@tu-dresden.de).

TUD strives to employ more women in academia and research. We therefore expressly encourage women to apply. The University is a certified family-friendly university and offers a Dual Career Service. We welcome applications from candidates with disabilities. If multiple candidates prove to be equally qualified, those with disabilities or with equivalent status pursuant to the German Social Code IX (SGB IX) will receive priority for employment. If you have any questions about these topics, please contact the Equal Opportunities Officer of the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (Susanne Wunsch, phone: +49 351 463-36689) or the Representative of Employees with Disabilities (Roberto Lemmrich, phone: +49 351 463-33175).
