The Center for Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS) is a German-Polish research center for data-intensive digital systems research.

CASUS is looking for a

Researcher/Scientist (f/m/d) for HPC, ML, and RDM.


To strengthen the Professional Support department at CASUS, we are seeking researchers/developers (f/m/d) for supporting application area scientists with their High Performance Computing (HPC), Machine Learning (ML), and Research Data Management (RDM) challenges. We firmly believe that first-class scientific results strongly depend on a professional approach for all of their Computational Science aspects.

Working field:

  • Working closely with application field scientists from various fields and different levels of IT background
  • Design, implementation, testing, debugging, and maintenance of scientific software
  • Benchmarking, refactoring, performance analysis, and performance optimization of sequential and parallel software
  • Design, training, testing, and validation of Machine Learning models
  • Method development, implementation, and hosting of tailored Research Data Management solutions for research projects
  • Publishing results in academic and peer-reviewed journals with own research focus topics and in collaboration with application field scientists, presenting results at scientific meetings
  • Computational Science support for all members of the institute


  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma/PhD) in the field of Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Relevant professional experience (1-3 years) in the specified area
  • Excellent programming skills in at least one of C/C++, Fortran, Python, or Julia. More are a plus.
  • Excellent parallel programming skills with at least one of MPI, OpenMP, CUDA/HIP, HPX, Alpaka, or Kokkos
  • Experience with development tools and build systems, git and collaborative development, debugging and profiling tools
  • Experience with Linux, working on command line and with shell scripts, working in HPC environments
  • Practical experience and proven contributions (scientific publications or software development) in one of the three areas HPC, ML, or RDM are a plus
  • PhD in one of the above fields with a Computational Science focus is a plus
  • Strong motivation to work in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication skills in English and in a professional context
