About us

At the research groups “Environmental Assessments” and “AI and Land-Use Change” at Technische Universität Berlin, a joint position as Research Associate in the subproject “AI-supported modelling through the integration of novel and heterogeneous data as well as spatial optimization” within the research project “Enabling a biodiversity-positive transformation of energy planning toward climate neutrality (BIOGAIN)” is to be filled as of March 1, 2026. The opportunity to pursue a PhD in this context is given.

Your responsibility

  • Identification and evaluation of novel, heterogeneous data
  • Collection of relevant datasets and preprocessing for modelling
  • AI-supported modelling for optimized energy planning
  • Collaboration with project partners

Further responsibilities include:

  • Writing project reports and scientific publications (in English)
  • Presenting project (interim) results at conferences

Your profile

  • Successfully completed academic university degree (Master, Diplom, or equivalent) in environmental planning, spatial/regional planning, geosciences, physics, mathematics, or computer science
  • Basic programming skills (Python)
  • Basic knowledge of spatial and environmental planning
  • Good German and/or English skills required; willingness to acquire any missing language skills
  • Programming skills in Python is desirable
  • Experience in machine learning/deep learning is desirable
  • Experience in analyzing geoscientific datasets is desirable
  • Experience in reporting/publications is desirable
  • Experience in the field of ecological impacts of the energy transition is desirable
  • Commitment, ability to work in a team, and ability to work independently and responsibly is desirable
