The Chair of Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences offers a full-time position as
Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
Conversational Geographic Question Answering
starting on June 1, 2026 (or as soon as possible afterwards) limited to three years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Tasks

— scientific research in the DFG-funded project “Chat4Data”
— creation and maintenance of a data corpus for scientific geographic question answering
— design and implementation of automated test strategies for (conversational) geographic question answering systems on geographic knowledge graphs
— user-centered evaluation of conversational (geographic) question answering systems

Requirements

— university degree (Master of Science or Diploma) in Informatics, Geoinformatics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
— familiarity with at least one programming language (Python, R, Java, ….)
— familiarity with Semantic Web Standards (RDF, SPARQL) is an advantage
— good command of written and spoken English
— good command of German language is advantageous but not a requirement.
— a reliable, proactive and structured way of working is desirable
